10Q Refer to the patella syndrome card and determine if the ABO blood group is linked to the patella gene.
1. It is not linked to the patella gene. 2. It is linked to the B gene carrying chromosome
3. It is linked to the i gene carrying chromosome
4. It is linked to the B gene but a crossover has occurred.
5. It is linked to the i gene but a crossover occurred.
In nearly every case, whenever the syndrome appears, the individual in question possesses B blood. Howver in the F1, there is one ii individual with the syndrome and one B blood type without it. If a crossover occurred in the P1 female, the patella gene could have become separated from B gene to produce the F1 phenotypic spreads. The data is thrown into question however by the presence of a Bi individual in the F2 without the patella syndrome. This result could also be explained through a crossover but the presence of such a rare event occurring in the same family in two successive generations is mighty rare. One might thus argue that the two genes are not linked on the basis of what can be seen in the diagram.
